Full-ride scholarships are the unicorn of student grants
Ever dreamed of landing a full-ride scholarship? If you’re into science, we have an excellent opportunity we’d like to share with you
Most students of traditional or online college classes have applied to a scholarship at some point in time. But not all grants for school are created equal. You see while most scholarship programs offer financial aid ranging between $1,000 to $3,000, there’s another sort of sponsorship – the mythical full-ride scholarship.
The majority of students of traditional or online college classes usually dream of becoming the recipient of such a grant, but unfortunately these type of grants are hard to come by, and even more difficult to win.
While the vast majority of scholarships come from universities and colleges which are trying to attract top students to their campuses, full-ride scholarships come from private organizations and can be used at any school.
The best part about these grants for school is that they not only cover tuition, but also additional expenses such as room and board, travel costs and studying materials.
How do you go about applying for a full ride scholarship? We’re glad you asked. Well in general, the things you can do to make yourself a strong college applicant can also make you a strong full ride scholarship candidate.
And one thing that all successful college students know is that you should start preparing early. This goes for scholarships just as well. Funding programs and admission officers evaluate application based on many factors and many can’t be worked on at the last minute.
That’s the thing – if you want to be a successful candidate you must remember that applying for a full-ride scholarship will take a lot of time. You won’t be able to sit down and finish your application in one day. So if you don’t think you can devote so much time to this process, you should probably walk away from it right now.
But if you think you have what it takes you should start your search for full-ride scholarships. Here’s one you might want to consider – the Regeneron Science Talent Search. It’s a national contest which allows some of the brightest young minds in science and mathematics conduct original research project and win cash in the process.
Students with a passion for the following fields are invited to apply:
- Computer science
- Environmental science
- Planetary science
Forty high school seniors will be shortlisted as finalists and invited to present their work during a dedicated event in Washington DC. The first place winner will receive a $250,000 grant, while the second-place winner will be awarded a $175,000 scholarship. A third prize of $150,000 will also be handed out. What’s more, even finalist making to 11th place and onwards will get $25,000 each.
So if you are into science and have an idea for a research project you want to conduct, you should visit the Regeneron Science Talent Search page and read all the rules and information on how to submit your application.
Project are due in in November 2017, so if you’re reading this now you don’t have a lot of time at your disposal. Luckily you’ll be able to apply next year as well.
