Horizons Scholarship offers a $500+ scholarship to women pursuing a career in defense

Pay for your studies with the Horizons Scholarship

Women have more opportunities than man to get a scholarship, case in point they can apply to the Horizon Scholarship for women pursuing a degree in defense

Scholarships are traditional meant to offer support to those who have had to face obstacles on their road to a higher degree. Historically, women have been the minority in the educational landscape and we’re confronted with many hardships before gaining acceptance in the space.

A study published by the Ohio State University reached some interesting conclusions: since women make on average 81% of what their male counterpart makes, acquiring a higher education degree is more important to the former segment.

The same study found that women fare worse off without a college degree than males, which is why females are more willing to consider loans or go into grater debt for a degree. Basically a diploma can translate into a much higher starting salary.

Educational institutions seem to be aware of this unbalance in the working environment, so they are doing everything in their power to support female students looking to get an education. Not only colleges and universities have adopted this tactic, but foundations and third-party institutions, as well. Google, for example, is famous for its efforts meant to bring more women into STEM.

Now if you too are a female student who has enrolled with an offline or distance learning program, you should be aware of the many scholarship opportunities available for you. Some offline or online colleges might offer gender-specific grants, but you’ll find the majority are awarded by institutions and organizations like Google.

These scholarships are a great way to fund your traditional or distance learning efforts, so even before you start researching offline or online colleges you should make a point to discover what scholarships for female students are available out there.

To get you started in your search, we’ll share a pretty note-worthy example. Awarded by Women in Defense, a National Security Organization, the Horizons Scholarship offers $500+ in financial aid to women looking to pursue a career in national security and defense.

In order to be considered for the grant you have to be a female student who is enrolled with an accredited university, full-time or part-time, at the undergraduate or graduate level.

Applicants need to be pursuing a degree in one of these fields: security studies, military history, government relations, engineering, computer science, cyber security, physics, mathematics, business (as it relates to national security or defense), law (as it relates to national security or defense), international relations, political science, and economics

A minimum GPA of 3.25 is required to apply for this grant, as well as being in financial need. Furthermore, candidates are expected to include two letters of recommendation in their applications, as well as an essay (no longer than 750 words) which answers three pre-defined questions.

If you’re reading this article right now, you should know this year’s deadline for the Horizons Scholarship has passed (July 1). Even if that’s the case, you can make a note of this scholarship and come revisit it next year.

  109. I AM RAHEEMA FROM SRI LANKA,I AM 22 YEARS OLD .I WANT TO STUDY MEDICINE IN ANY ASIAN COUNTRIES FROM FULL FUNDING SCHOLARSHIP.COULD YOU PLEASE HELP ME?

  110. Thanks a bunch for sharing this with all of us you really know what you’re talking about! Bookmarked. Please also visit my site =). We could have a link exchange contract between us!

  111. What does this mean? In the practical sense, not much… but in the legal world,
it works as a sort of sleight-of-hand that protects Uber in the event of a
lawsuit. You see, under the law, employers are considered to be more responsible for the actions of their employees than they are
for the actions of their independent contractors.

Uber has used this argument to protect itself against third party plaintiffs many times, including in a lawsuit filed by the family of a young girl
who was killed by an Uber driver while crossing the street.
If they can use that defense against an innocent child, you can bet they’ll use it against you!

However, this issue is still a legally hazy
one. Strong legal precedent has not yet been established on this particular question,
and different courts have come to different conclusions.

Right now, the status quo seems to be that Uber drivers
are considered employees in some areas, and independent contractors in others.

Regardless, you can be certain that if you were hit by an Uber driver,
the company will do what it can to avoid having to pay you a dime.
In these situations, a personal injury attorney is more important than ever, and
one with experiences in Uber cases is a definite plus. If you
find yourself in an Uber accident, you should take the same
steps that you should take after any automobile accident.

These steps include protecting your own safety by getting out of the line of immediate danger and calling 911 if anyone
has been injured, remaining at the scene and sharing insurance information with any
other drivers who were involved, calling the police if the accident is serious, and
reporting it to your insurance company.

  115. I would like to add if you do not now have an insurance policy otherwise you do not take part in any group insurance, you may well benefit from seeking the aid of a health insurance agent. Self-employed or those with medical conditions normally seek the help of one health insurance agent. Thanks for your short article.

  116. Today, while I was at work, my sister stole my iPad and tested to see if it can survive a twenty five foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation. My iPad is now destroyed and she has 83 views. I know this is completely off topic but I had to share it with someone!

  117. Do you have a spam problem on this site; I also am a blogger, and I was wanting to know your situation; many of us have created some nice methods and we are looking to swap methods with other folks, why not shoot me an e-mail if interested.

  118. Thanks for helping me to attain new tips about computers. I also hold the belief that one of the best ways to help keep your notebook in prime condition is with a hard plastic material case, or shell, which fits over the top of the computer. A lot of these protective gear are generally model unique since they are made to fit perfectly in the natural housing. You can buy these directly from the vendor, or via third party places if they are intended for your notebook, however not every laptop will have a shell on the market. All over again, thanks for your ideas.

  119. I not to mention my guys ended up reading through the good tricks from your web site and so all of the sudden developed an awful suspicion I never expressed respect to the web site owner for those techniques. Those boys had been certainly excited to read through all of them and have now clearly been enjoying those things. Thank you for truly being considerably considerate as well as for figuring out some important subject areas millions of individuals are really desperate to understand about. My personal honest apologies for not expressing gratitude to you earlier.

  120. Throughout the awesome scheme of things you secure an A+ for effort and hard work. Where you actually confused me was in your facts. As they say, the devil is in the details… And it couldn’t be more correct here. Having said that, permit me tell you exactly what did give good results. Your text is certainly very persuasive and this is most likely the reason why I am taking the effort in order to comment. I do not really make it a regular habit of doing that. Second, even though I can certainly see the jumps in reasoning you make, I am definitely not certain of just how you appear to unite the points which make your final result. For the moment I will, no doubt subscribe to your issue but wish in the foreseeable future you connect your dots better.

  121. Yet another thing I would like to state is that in place of trying to suit all your online degree classes on days of the week that you finish off work (because most people are fatigued when they return home), try to have most of your sessions on the weekends and only one or two courses in weekdays, even if it means a little time away from your saturdays. This is fantastic because on the saturdays and sundays, you will be far more rested and also concentrated upon school work. Thanks for the different guidelines I have realized from your website.

Very few internet sites that occur to become in depth beneath, from our point of view are undoubtedly properly really worth checking out.

  144. The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

  145. Sorry for the huge review, but I’m really loving the new Zune, and hope this, as well as the excellent reviews some other people have written, will help you decide if it’s the right choice for you.

  146. The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

  149. Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

  150. This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

  151. Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

  167. Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

  193. I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

  195. Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

  199. If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.
